On Saturday, more than 230 families received fresh produce when the Houston Food Bank’s mobile food truck visited Huntsville. Each family received a large box of groceries including red potatoes, broccoli, tomatoes, bananas, celery, grapefruit, and Irish potatoes.
Before the truck arrived, Huntsville Memorial Hospital was on hand to do free blood pressure and glucose screening. As part of the Walker County Healthy Initiatives, blood pressure monitors and glucose testing kits were given to those who needed them.
As soon as the truck arrived, volunteers quickly unloaded and organized the food items and worked together to begin the distribution.
Volunteers accompanied our guests through the line and helped carry the boxes and bags as they were filled.
Thank you to all the volunteers who joined the Huntsville Junior Service League and Huntsville Church of Christ in serving those less fortunate. We are blessed to have so many in our community band together to help!
When all was said and done, our youngest helpers (who worked hard all morning) had a great opportunity to play hard during the clean-up process!
It is an honor to have such a positive influence on our community through this and many other programs. A truck is scheduled for February 7, so mark your calendars now to join in serving our community!!
