At the beginning of the school year, an estimated 458 children in the Huntsville Independent School District were living without a regular, permanent home. What a sad and completely staggering statistic! Many children (and parents) are forced by their circumstances to stay at the homes of friends and family. They often have to move from one place to another as to not wear out their welcome at any one place. To lessen the burden of those who take the homeless children and families in, a project exists that provides the students with hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc. Having some of these necessities helps to ease the costs the hosting family incurs when taking in additional people to their home. The project also helps any families who are stretched too thin and receive assistance that doesn’t cover those type items.
If you wish to help, you may purchase any products such as soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream and razors, female hygiene products, deodorant, etc. and deliver to Mance Park Middle School. The Social Services department will then distribute them to students of all ages who are in need. Unopened travel sized items are a big help as well, so if you are traveling, save those freebies in the hotel and make a big difference in the life of a student right here in Huntsville.
