Harvey Relief efforts in Walker County

WOW are we blessed to live in Walker County! The response to helping all those who have had to evacuate from their homes has been amazing!

Many shelter locations are currently full as far as clothing donations, but still could use baby formula, feminine hygiene products, men’s/women’s undergarments, diapers, baby wipes, soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, blankets, towels, bedding and pillows.  The transportation building (bus barn) on Martin Luther King is a main hub for the storm shelter and high school.  As of Tuesday, they are asking people to wait for a day or so before dropping off any items as they are trying to sort all the donations.  The Walker County Office of Emergency Management will be posting updates at their Facebook page.

Donations can be made to the Global Financial Parners office at 1211 Financial Plaza is happy to take donations in the meantime and will get them to the shelters as they become needed.  The office can be contacted at 936-294-0201 for more information on times available.

There is a blood drive at Alpha Omega Academy tomorrow, Wednesday, August 29th from 9-5:00 pm.  The Houston area blood banks are in dire need of all blood types. For more information, check out their Facebook page.

Rita B Huff Humane Society is in need of Purina One dog food, Purina Puppy Chow, Purina Kitten and Cat food, cat litter, and bleach.  The shelter will be accepting donations from 8-12 daily as long as no new rain surges occur.  They are also in need of volunteers to help with clean up.  Bring your boots if you would like to be a part of the volunteer crew tomorrow from 8-12.  For more information, visit their Facebook page.

The Good Shepherd Mission is in need of sandwich bags, dry beans, sugar, canned fruit, canned beans, canned soup as there is an increased demand for services at this time and for the near future.  For more information, visit their website or Facebook page.

As we find out about needs or volunteer opportunities we will share on our Facebook page and blog.  If you have information you would like us to share, please send it to jsl.huntsville@gmail.com.

We are so grateful to be a part of such a loving, giving, supportive community (and State)!
