Through our 40 years of service and hundreds of ladies, our eyes have been opened to many ways that we can positively impact our community. One way we have been serving over the last 2.5 years is through the delivery of meals to homebound senior citizens through the Meals on Wheels program.
Meals on Wheels in Huntsville and surrounding areas is run through the Senior Center of Walker County. The staff at the Senior Center prepare approximately 80 meals a day that are delivered to 5 different routes throughout the community. Drivers deliver meals to seniors who are not able to get out of their homes or prepare meals easily on their own.
Being able to help fulfill the basic need of food for someone who may not otherwise have a meal is beyond rewarding. However, it is even better knowing that each senior will have a visitor stop by for a brief moment of conversation. Seeing the smiles on the faces of those on our route is simply priceless.
Investing in the aging in our community is of vital importance. There are many ways to help…sign up to deliver a route, help raise funds by supporting their upcoming Pulled Pork Fundraiser on February 1st or the yard sale on March 25th, or donate money to help cover costs of Meals on Wheels.
