In 2012 the Huntsville Junior Service League embarked upon a new service adventure when hiring the first food truck from the Houston Food Bank to come to Huntsville. The truck delivered fresh fruit and vegetables to be distributed to any Walker County citizens in attendance.
After seeing the impact made from distributing food that first day, the league made a commitment to make the food truck a part of our annual service projects. We currently strive to bring the food truck to town 5 times per year. The upcoming February food truck will be our 15th truck to bring to town since the first one in 2012. On average 150-200 families attend each food truck event. Those 150+ families represent anywhere from 450-800 individuals in Walker County that are impacted by the service each time the truck comes to town.
The Mobile Food Truck event for JSL is one of the most impactful and important services we offer. There is no greater need than to feed those who need a little help. We are proud to be a part of such a necessary service! We welcome all of Walker County to attend each food truck as our guest or as a volunteer. Won’t you join us to make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors?
The food truck returns to Huntsville on February 4th at the Huntsville Church of Christ.
Our largest fundraiser and celebration of women in service, The Mother of Pearl Brunch and Auction, is April 29th. To make the event as successful as possible, we are looking for businesses or individuals to help sponsor event. If you are interested in more information, please contact any JSL member or email us at jsl.huntsville@gmail.com.
